News January 2004

Closure of Brentford High Street, Sunday 25th January 2004
From London Borough of Hounslow website:

A large tower crane needs to be removed from the Brentford Lock development site, High Street, Brentford, in order to complete works to the roof of the new building.

The tower crane will be progressively dismantled, but requires the positioning of another large crane to remove the dismantled sections from the site. The only place to locate the other crane is on High Street, Brentford, fronting the development, and it will effectively take up all available carriageway space.

The works are due to be carried out on 25th January 2004 . Set-up will commence at 6am, with the works lasting between six and ten hours (depending on weather). It will therefore be necessary to close the High Street (between Half Acre and Commerce Road) for the duration of the works with through traffic being diverted along Half Acre, Boston Manor Road, Great West Road, Spur Road, Syon Lane and London Road in both directions. Local access to shops and other amenities will be retained as far as practicable.

Dock Road will be open to vehicles.

Annual General Meeting

The 2003 Annual General Meeting of Brentford Dock Ltd will be held on Wednesday 21st January at 8pm in the Residents' Clubhouse, 1 Augustus Close.

Chiswick Police Ringmaster Message 1141

"This is to make you aware that a man recently conned his way into a home in Brentford by claiming to be from the waterboard.  He stated that he was there to check the water pressure & once inside asked the occupant where she kept her pension book.  When she said it was paid into the bank, he made off.

The man was white, aged around 40, heavily built, had short dark hair and wore a brown jacket.

This is a common story used by bogus callers.  If you receive a visit from an unexpected official, please check ID carefully & preferably phone their company to check they are genuine.

Please don't be taken in by their stories and spread the word to elderly or vulnerable neighbours."
